Avast pops up

So avast pops up at seemingly rather random intervals. I can be surfing (and other things too) and all of a sudden avast opens up itself. It´s not that it wants to be updated either (running latest and updated manually).

It does this even after a complete uninstall.

What does the pop-up say?

What version of Avast do you have? 5.0.594 is the latest version
What product of Avast? Free, Pro, AIS

SafeSurf, i think he might be saying that the main interface is opening up for no reason, is this correct Prophet?

@ craigb,

I need to clarify with the OP. You could be correct, but there could also be a pop-up warning from Avast when you are surfing telling you that the site you are trying to go on is malicious and to get out of here. So I need to clarify and find out what the pop-op said. I’m seeing a lot of this in the Worms and Virus section of the forum these days. So, we’ll have to wait for the OP to return.

But thank you for responding.

I understand SafeSurf, it was just my interpretation of what or how it reads. Have to just wait and see what other information is given. I need to be more patient and not jump the gun on anybody :-X

You’re just trying to help, and that is understandable. And I and other certainly appreciate that. So thank you very much.

Sorry for being unclear. Yes its the maininterface. It´s not a warning.

Yes the version I have is 5.0.594 Free. It does this even though I temporarily have gaming mode set to permanent.

Have you completly removed all evidence of other av’s that were on your cpu before installing avast? Did you install over any previous edition’s of avast? You can try a repair though add remove programs if you haven’t already.

Yes I did.

  1. Please tell me what current and previous antivirus (AV), firewall (AV), and other security programs you have or had?

  2. What is your OS? 32 or 64-bit?

  3. Was Avast 5.0.594 an upgrade over a previous version or a clean install?

To clarify, you already tried to do an Avast repair and this did not help…correct?

Most likely you need to do an uninstall and a clean install, but I will await your reply to the questions above.

Yesterday it only popped up when I downloaded some files (in firefox) so I disabled the http module. Ofc it pops up to tell me the http module is disabled, something it hasnt done earlier (probably another version though).

And in the well known name of my twin brother “DoubleDoh”!

I think the explanation is easy. I´m using download statusbar in firefox and set av manually there a few days ago.

I´ll get back if that doesnt fix it

Well at least I have an extremely prestine version of avast now.

So you did an clean (fresh / new) install of Avast 5.0.594.
You are not using the beta version 5.0.661, are you?
Let me know how you do with your FF status bar. I’ll be here for a while on/off.
