Avast Premier - Firewall blocks Vpn Service

Hello!

2 days ago, Avast Premier firewall started blocking my BTGuard VPN. Now I always have to deactivate my firewall if I want to use my VPN.
I already followed the VPNs FAQ and tried to open the port specified: Protocol GRE (47) and port 1723.
However, i can only do anything about ports in: Tools → Firewall → Settings/Options (I have german version, there its called “Einstellungen”) → package rules (“Paketregeln”).

Problem is for some reason I cannot specifiy local-port, remote port and “ICMP Type” manually. I can only specifiy Name, protocol, direction and adress. In other words, I dont know if the port i wanted to open was actually opened or not, since I could only specifiy the protocol and adress (vpn.btguard.com)…I guess it wasnt, since it didnt work. And i dont know either where else i could open a port in the avast firewall settings?

Maybe I dont need to open the port anyway? Anyone else got experience with this. I was only following the instructions on my VPN providers site. Maybe some of you have dealt with such problems before?

Its quite annoying that I have to turn off my FW if I want to surf anonymously

greetings

Hi
Not sure if this will help you, but can you delete all entries in the Firewall pertaining to that program?
It’s been a long long time since I ran Avast Firewall so it’s just a thought.
The firewall should then “ask” when the VPN try to connect.

what the hell?

Hello, avast? This thread was full of replies and now its empty?
There was even a reply from a staff member who said that the issue described above would be solved in “next weeks patch”.

Well, it WAS NOT solved! I still cant connect to my VPN while Firewall is turned on. What the heck is going on, would you please solve the issue or refund me?
Im not even using a special VPN Software, its the integrated windows VPN Service im using! I cant even connect to my goddamn university’s network!

I have the same problem with strongvpn, I cannot connect to it unless i disable the firewall.
anybody got a fix ?

Check if the avast firewall supports the GRE protocol.

Check if in firewall, VPN adapter/network is set to “Public” & change it to “Private” And change your network/adapter to “Private” too.

I use ExpressVPN And have noticed that VPN adapter/network & my network/adapter set to “Public”, I cannot browse And set to “Private”, no probs.

So check & give a try…

Also check application rules in firewall for VPN is allowed.

Tried that, and still not working… i have to turn the firewall off for the VPN to connect

Topic reported to Avast for additional help and comment.

I use Private Internet Access VPN and have never had an issue with Avast Internet Security with the Firewall.

Have you re-installed the VPN TAP driver to ensure that isn’t causing the issue?

I use the strongvpn App to connect to the vpn, and yes i reinstalled its tap driver, but still having the same issue

Try this : Avast - Tools - Firewall - Settings - Network profiles - select your VPN network profile - select Profile “Public” and check “Friends” - Ok.

Greetz, Red.

“Friends” is grayed out when i select “public”

Yep,

I was tired and talking nonsense :-[

In : Avast - Tools - Firewall - Settings - Policies - System rules … are VPN connections “Enabled” ?

Greetz, Red.

yes they are enabled, but my vpn connection is openvpn based though.
