I have Avast Premium anti-virus and just had to have the hard drive replaced on my 4 month old computer because a virus infected it, and I was also told that it infected the chip. The repair guy replaced my hard drive free but it still cost me $48. I cancelled my Avast subscription and am no longer using it. I hope to receive refunds. No more Avast for me.
Symptoms, how did you find the infection and what was it ?
The computer guy said the virus had infected the chip !!!
I find this very hard to believe, I would love to know how he determined that and what chip was he talking about ?
Nothing in the world of AVs is 100% guaranteed to catch everything.
I was also told that it infected the chip. Why did he replace the hard drive then?
What was the name of the malware?
Did the repair guy say CHIP ransomware?
No security program have 100% detection or zero false positives, if they did there would not be a internet malware problem
Mate, I hate to say this, your PC guy ripped you off. Even had you been infected with the nastiest virus you’ve ever met, a wipe of the OS, and a flash of your BIOS and it’d be over with. Depending on the HDD/SSD in the computer, probably would’ve taken an honest tech anywhere between 30-60 minutes to do. No replacement required.
