Avast Premium "died" - "This shouldn't take long" screen

So, I have a 2 year subscription of what was the old AIS. Updated to Premium last year and, since that, I’m facing this problem

The Antivirus “died”… The main engine doesn’t work, with Windows advising that no antivirus protection is active… I’m using Windows Defender now… This is not the first time, but the other time, wasn’t this bad… Was only the main UI that crashed, not the entire thing…

For record, the virus definitions update is automatic… The program updates isn’t and is a 2 weeks Windows install…

Also many people here are unwillimg to visit a 3rd party website to view images.

Didn’t noticed I could upload attachments on this forum…

Anyway, adding, tried to repair the installation and nothing… Same results…

As you have a paid version of Avast, you can contact Avast support here: https://support.avast.com/contact
Also take a look here regarding product change from Avast Premier to Premium Security: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/Premium-Security-FAQ

OK, I’ll try that…

To clarify: I updated to the Premium version, not Premier, as stated before… Was a free upgrade, so…

You could try a clean install.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

After a week of a clean install, it happened again… And yes, the entire antivirus engine stops, has shown in the attached thumbnail…

Can’t trust in an antivirus that behaves like this… There’s clearly a problem with it…

Same issue here, accepted the free upgrade.

After a reboot stuck on “This shouldn’t take long” screen.

Did a clean install and fixed the issue.

Few days later no protection again stuck on “This shouldn’t take long” screen.

Tried repair no luck fixing the issue.
