Avast Premium Security is not working

When I click on the icon, Avast no longer scans the computer as it used to. It looks like it does when a scan has finished.
It says, ‘This scan has finished.’ ‘Smart Scan has finished’ along with the green square that says ‘See Results’.
I’ve tried to find a way to make it scan but have been unsuccessful.

I click on the Avast Premium Security icon on the desktop.
The Avast window opens.
Instead of saying “Run Smart Scan”, it says:
‘This scan has finished.’ ‘Smart Scan has finished’ ‘See Results’.

Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I tried the repair app and it worked normally once.
Now, it’s back to ‘See Results’ when I click on the icon.

  • Which version/build of Avast Premium…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

It turned out that I didn’t have the latest version. Thanks, the latest version works. Avast should let their customers know when there are updates.

It’s not working again.
It worked a few times after I used the repair app. I tried the repair app again but it still doesn’t work.
It’s 64 bit.
I didn’t use any other anti-virus before Avast and don’t have any other security software installed.
I don’t know what SP/Build is or how to find it.

Windows just did an update and it seems to be working for now.
But I will definitely keep this in mind should it fail to work again.

It’s not working again so I will try this.
What do I need to know to re-install it? Is there any information I need to save?

Have you viewed the information in the two links bob3160 gave (that you quoted) ?
That would be a good starting point and if you have any questions after that you can give details.

Yes. It just says how to uninstall it. I’m afraid of uninstalling it and not being able to install it again.
Edit: It does say how to install it. I’m just afraid it will ask for a key or something that I didn’t need I had to save. I’ll give it a shot anyway.

When you install the program, you should be able to link it to your avast account.

i uninstalled Avast Premium Security and then reinstalled it and it worked sporadically but isn’t working again.

Do you have any other anti-virus, anti-malware or security software installed?
If you had any of the above installed in the past, have you fully uninstalled it with the vendors specific uninstall utility?

I don’t have any other security software installed; the Avast Premium was working fine until recently.
