Today Avast started detecting issues when I start Quicken for Windows.
Detects Quicken as a threat when it accesses Windows file.
“Threat secured” We’ve secured rundll32.exe [14152] because it was infected with Win32-Malware-gen".
Then when Quicken try’s again to open “Run time Error”
Has a ticket been been created for this? Followed you from Quicken forum.
Brand new install coming from a WIndows 10 VM, it had malwarebytes. Did new laptop install with Avast and as soon as a NEW QUicken for Windows was installed and launched, got the same error. DIsabiling Avast and relaunching did allow the program to load. I did get a popup for firewall to allow it to internet.
No, Avast does a great job monitoring this forum
Have you submitted a suspected False Positive Form to Avast using this: https://www.avast.com/false-positive-file-form.php
You can refer the dev’s to this forum thread.
Just sent the information to avast as a false positive.
I’m looking at Quicken to fix this bug
The threat is being detected by Avast Anti-exploit shield.
If this is turned off then the error stops when starting Quicken for Windows
I too am having this problem with Quicken/Avast and I’m running Windows 7.
Same issue. It’s definitely Avast, if I uninstall/reinstall Quicken I get the same issue but if I disable the Avast shields there are no problems. When the shields are back on it causes the errors again.
I’ve updated Avast and the definitions and the issue still persists. Quicken is adamant that this is Avast’s problem and will not assist if you call them
Avast Support:
Thank you for your quick resolution to this issue.
Updated definitions and program and all is well again…
Avast:
Looks like you may have rolled back the fix when the new program version was released today.
THE ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED!
I’ve resubmitted a trouble ticket to avast again for false Positive ![]()
I had this problem on 2 machines. Avast One on W11 & Avast Free on W10. Just ran the latest Avast program update on both machines & it resolved for me. ![]()
22.9.6034 22.9.7554.734
It temporary, believe me!
You are correct. >:(
Works fine on first reboot but problem comes back at some point. Very strange.
I resubmitted the issues yesterday afternoon.
This came in today at 7:20 am est from Support
"Hello,
Thank you for contacting Avast and reporting a false positive file detection. I’m happy to help.
The reported file was checked by Avast virus specialists and based on the findings the detection was removed. The file is now marked as clean in the Avast virus database. This change may take up to 24 hours to take full effect. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience caused.
If the detection persists after 24 hours, please update the Avast virus database and reply to this email with attached files:
- Take a screenshot of the Avast detection dialog (Threat Secured pop-up with See details - displayed at the bottom).
- A screenshot of the Avast virus database (open Avast Antivirus and go to Menu > About).
I hope you have a nice day, and stay safe online."
Thank you for going the extra mile Kalman.
Do they know how many Quicken users are affected by this? There are 8 pages of complaints in one thread I’ve read in the Quicken forums. For every person who posts, there will be far, far more who say nothing, or may be opening trouble tickets. I’ve said nothing till now, but I have the same problem that everyone else has.
In fact in my case I hadn’t updated the Avast program since March, but the problem still happened, though Avast itself wasn’t producing a pop-up. After I upgraded Avast, the problem continued, but now with the Avast pop-up of threat detected.
(I would update Avast more often, but the setting to notify me when a new update is available does not work and has never worked. Once in a while I remember to do a manual check - not often enough.)
Disabling Avast Shields solves the Quicken problem. Maybe just disabling exploit detection would be enough, as some have suggested (Settings > Protection > Anti-Rootkit > Anti-Exploit) but I haven’t tried that yet.
I wonder why Exploits are configured as a subset of Rootkits. If you turn off the Anti-Rootkit Shield, the Anti-Exploit Shield is also disabled. Of course, I’m unlikely to understand what Avast means by an “exploit.”

This was my post when I figured out what was causing the issue:
“Maybe just disabling exploit detection would be enough, as some have suggested (Settings > Protection > Anti-Rootkit > Anti-Exploit) but I haven’t tried that yet.” Yes it does stop the problem with Quicken.
My concern is not sure exactly what possible threats you would be open to.

This was my response to Avast Support that I never showed until now.
"David:
This is the second time Avast said this issue is fixed and it’s not. Avast needs to do a better job with this and push the updates quickly when they mess up this bad. You have Thousands of people complaining about this on the Quicken forum.
I realize you said 24 hours but that’s an unreasonable period of time.
On Tuesday at 04:00 am I received the first email form your group saying it was fixed and it may take up to 7 hours.
Of course it was not."
Hi,
Our virus specialist looked into this issue. It should now be fixed.
