Avast Premium Security / Surfshark / Dns leaks

Hi,
I have an issue with Avast Premium Security when using Surfshark, there are dns leaks.
The only way of preventing from dsn leaks is to disable the Real Site.
Is there no other options than disabling the Real site when using Surfshark?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Could you clarify why you think you have a DNS leak?

had similar back in May using Nord vpn
while you wait for the other person to reply maybe the attached pics will give idea of whats happening even though a different vpn https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=319678.15

Hi,

I can clarify.
When the Avast Real is on, there is a dns leak as shown here :

When the Avast Real is off, there is no dns leak as shown here :

How can I troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks for your help.

Hi MrDJ and benbxl,

If you have Real Site enabled and the VPN, your DNS request will be managed by Avast’s DNS servers (not your ISP or VPN). That is what is shown in your screenshots.
The DNS IP address when Real Site is enabled is that of Avast’s DNS servers. When disabled, it is that of the VPN. So you have to decide if you want Avast to manage your DNS requests or your VPN provider.

Thank you for the reply r@vast.

this is where it gets a bit too technical for me

so just to clarify, if i wanted my vpn to manage my DNS would the only way to acheive this be by turning off real sites or is there another way.

secondly if i keep it as it is and DNS goes through avast is this still safe or is there actually a leak and a risk.

Hi,

If you want your VPN to manage your DNS requests then turn off Real Site. If you keep Real Site you are safe (your real IP is not revealed).

perfect, thank you for the reply. i will keep it on then.
