To this day I don’t understand why Avast doesn’t stop this practice, which only drives customers further away. :expressionless_face:

What I can’t understand is why I as an Avast Free user, I don’t see much of this.

I believe it is that most people leave the default settings when they install Avast Free or Paid.

That said I would have thought that the default settings would have had more grace and not try to scare the pants of those users who have paid for the Premium product. They have paid for a product that they believe will protect them and then they get all this nonsense. Making this product look like it doesn’t protect them, that harms the Avast product and brand, counter productive.

Me whatever product I get the first thing I do is dive into are the settings.
For Avast, this has to be:

Managing pop-up notifications in Avast Antivirus Premium

  • https://support.avast.com/article/antivirus-popup-notifications/#pc - Scroll down to Stop offers for other products. - If you use Avast Premium Security, you can additionally stop seeing offers for other Avast products and Personalised Discounts. ** Avast UI > Menu > Settings > General > Personal Privacy.
  • Also check the AvastUI > Menu > Settings > General > Notifications, I would suggest using the Pop-up Notifications treatment - Limited Mode.
  • Above all disable the blood Smart Scan all it does is scare the pants of new users and make them think the product doesn’t give the protection they expected or spamming them to purchase other products.

Do you think Avast are idiots for saying that their policy is counterproductive?

Do you have their financial figures?

If they don’t change, it’s probably because this policy – which is admittedly aggressive – allows them to gain more customers (and more money) than they lose because customers are unhappy.

If things continue like this, sooner or later things are going to get ugly.
