I searched, but didn’t find any other mentions of anyone having this problem. Up until just a few months ago, Avast had no problems with Minecraft, but suddenly it started preventing it from running with NO warnings or options to allow.
I can temporarily disable Avast shields and it starts just fine, and I’ve looked in the user interface trying different settings to ALLOW the Minecraft.exe to run, but to no avail. Has anyone else encountered this, and if so have you found a good workaround that doesn’t involve turning off your antivirus?
Tried them, but didn’t work. Updated both Java and AVast and still it’s preventing Minecraft from running. I suspect it’s something to do with the way Avast is interacting with Java, as I just had the task manager open when I tried running Minecraft and for a split second there was a process that appeared that was Ja…??? something or other, but Avast made a BEEP tone and the process vanished
My son plays Minecraft both on and offline, we have used Avast since version 4 and he has never had any issue. Indeed he is at this moment playing online.
I tell you, I’m NOT losing my mind…it BEEPED at me! LOL
Well, okay… it’s the XP “Critical Stop” sound, but that sounds like a beep on steroids to ME
And it almost HAS to be Avast… up until I disable the shield controls it “BEEPS” every time I try to run it, but once those shields are disabled, it fires right up no problem.
It’s the home FREE version, running on Windows XP SP3, 32bit
The only other security related software I run is ZoneAlarm, but again, I don’t see how it could be anything other than Avast as when the shields are up, Minecraft won’t run, turn the shields off and Minecraft will start up and run just fine (even after the shields kick back in after being disabled for 10 minutes).
YES! Just the home free basic firewall (don’t EVEN get me started on people who run 2 or 3 antivirus software packages at the same time on their PC! grrr!! lol)
