I had adobe reader installed for years. Then avast tried to update the version. Message was ‘update failed’. I uninstalled ‘reader’ thru control panel. Went to ADOBE site - tried to download a fresh copy. Avast says failed. Reason = ‘a newer copy is installed than the one being requested’. There is NO copy installed, although there are remnants in the registry from reader. All adobe folders and files are gone. Various EVENT messages indicate ‘update’ failures at each system boot. Other EVENT messages talk about some sort of registry leak related to AVAST. This is all very confusing. I presume that the leftover registry entries are the problem, but maybe not. I used CCLEANER to try to remove the dead registry entries, but it too left some stuff. I don’t know if this is an avast problem or a registry problem. I am willing to ‘find and clear’ all of the reader entries by hand thru regedit, but I also am concerned that that will not be enough. So, any ideas?
- Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
- Which version…?
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
AVAST FREE, I don’t know the version but it has to very recent (had to restart to get it around the date of my post), although the EVENT logs show that this first appeared quite a while ago (several months RE the LEAK messages).
Running Windows 7, SP1, 32 bit, build unknown.
Avast is only security component running. Have had AVAST for 19 months.
Post a screenshot of the Avast warning.
