Avast prevents browsers from loading Internet pages

Hello everyone,

I’ve been fighting with a problem occurred in my friend’s PC lately. She asked me for my help because she was unable to open any Internet page with any Internet browser even if the computer was properly connected to the Internet. I thought she had the computer infected and tried to run different scans with several security tools. They actually found some infections and deleted but still Internet Browsers (Chrome and Internet Explorer) didn’t load pages. I didn’t know how to do, so I disabled the firewall to see if something changed but nothing new happened. It was when I disabled Avast Free that Internet browsers began to work again.
That’s really strange as she had never had problems with Avast.
I disabled her anti virus but this way her computer is exposed to viruses and that’s no good.
Anyone knows how to solve this problem?

What firewall is it, if the firewall does not allow Avast webshield to access the net then it will not work

It’s Windows firewall. I don’t think it causes conflict because she’s always had it since she bought the computer and Avast did work properly.

Could you re-enable all shields bar webshield, does that restore internet access ?

If so then run a repair of Avast via control panel > programs and features

I uninstalled and re-installed it and now all seems to work properly
