If i buy a license for Avast Professional (Vers. 4.7) for one year, am i allowed to upgrade to Avast 5 for free if it is released in this period (the one year i bought the license for 4.7)?
Or am i only allowed to update to 4.8 (or 4.9 if releases) and have to pay for Vers. 5?
I believe you would get all program updates within the years license period. Though I don’t work for Alwil software and my opinion may differ from their policy.
Is this true? Their license period ends with the product.
The only time I paid for one of these was McAfee 4.0 in 2000 (AU$29.99 less $20 cash-back - and even at that price it was a waste of money… but that’s another story) and I was then able to “upgrade” for free to version 5.0 during the license period. I know this is still the same for CA and AVG.
With mcafee, the policy was, if a new version came out within 3 months (I believe) of you buying a version, you could update online. Don’t know if that is still true. They supported the older versions for over a year back then, so you weren’t left out in the cold. When your subscription (licence) ran out, you could but the new vesion. There wasn’t all that much difference in price.
Thanks oldman
Tech, that might explain our different experiences. I do remember tediously downloading the upgrade over dial-up, only to discover that McAfee 5 so inhibited the performance of my 468 DX2 that I gave up on it and went back to 4. Incredibly, updates for 4.0.3 only ceased in January 2007! http://download.mcafee.com/updates/4xa.asp?real=0 though I haven’t used it since 2001.
