Just bought 2016 Avast Pro for my XP sp3 laptop. Had Avast 2014, a paid version, before and worked fine.
After installing the new Avast Pro my machine boots normally, desktop shows for several seconds then a blue screen for 1 second, (too quick for me to see what it is saying), then the computer reboots, desktop appears, blue screen then reboot again. This in a continuous loop.
What the H*LL is going on with Avast?? How do I stop this??
Thanks in advance!
Eddy

Thanks Pondus,
How do I do a clean install? I can’t get the computer to stop the continuous rebooting.
I can boot up in safe mode but no connection to internet to download anything.
Sorry, I’m not as computer savvy as the others on this site.

Boot in safe mode with network options, or download the tool on a working system and transfer it to yours. (usb stick)

Pondus,
I haven’t tried to uninstall Avast from Safe mode, (It just dawned on me that Avast might be why this is happening). I’ll try that from Safe Mode.
Eddy: The tool you are referring to is the https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility? If I put that on a USB thumb drive, click on it, then it will run in safe mode and perform a clean up of Avast? If that is successful does that mean I can’t use the Avast program on that computer?

If the tool is successful, it means that avast has been removed.
If you want to use it again, you will have to install avast.
Don’t know if it will work in safe-mode…

Download DAR
It will disable the automatic reboot for Windows XP so you can see what is on the BSOD
