Avast Pro 4.8 and Firewall

Hello,

I am a trial user and getting ready to purchase Home Pro 4.8 and was wondering if there is a need for a separate Firewall. I have in the past used Norton with a Firewall and Panda (I think) that had a Firewall.

I see there is none with the Avast Pro 4.8, should I consider a separate Firewall?? If so, any recommendations??

BTW, I live on a sailboat and use wireless to the marina server.

See there. Avast! 5 Home/Pro wont got firewall but Avast! 5 Security Center will do with anti-spam also.

Welcome to the forums!

You might want to look into one of these firewalls (links below):

Outpost Firewall Free 2009

PC Tools Firewall Plus (free)

These are two I have used without problems (on several computers, with XP Pro and XP Home). A forum search of “firewall” will yield quite a lot of information and a number of discussions–more firewalls which you might find more suitable, pros and cons of different firewalls, firewalls used by different avast users with various operating systems, etc.

I hope this helps.

I recommend Online Armor Free or ZoneAlarm Free firewalls.

Don’t forget as part of uninstalling Norton to run the removal tool.
I use PCTools firewall. Seems easy and straightforward.
Have used Comodo in the past, find it a bit “involved”.
Online Armour has a good rep. Includes a HIPS.
If you get Avast 4.8 por now, it should be a direct transfer to version 5 when it comes out, and a slight extra payment for the inclusion of the new Avast firewall.

If you are interested in a leaktest-comparison you should take a look at [urlhttp://www.matousec.com/]Matousec[/url].
