I recently renewed my licence for Avast Pro Anti-virus and my experience with Avast has been extremely disappointing.

First of all, I had trouble in installing the software on my PC and Avast Customer Service was of no use whatsoever. I eventually got the problem solved on my own and got Avast Pro installed. However, Avast Pro is not updating and an ‘Unknown Error’ comes up every time it tries to update.

I have called Avast Customer Service on two occasions but they failed to solve the problem. On both occasions, I was told that the issue was being passed to Technical Support and that they would call back within 24 hours. Days passed with no return call from Avast and the problem remains.

The standard of Customer Service at Avast is well below what is acceptable and I would like to warm anyone who is thinking about buying Avast products that it would be better to deal with a different anti-virus provider. >:( :frowning: :o

Something to try. Does it update if you change to Google DNS?

Thanks for your reply Pondus,

I am not familiar with DNS or the pros and cons of it. Also, maybe do not have the technical competence to make the alteration to DNS.
I will try this if nothing else works but I think that installing Avast Pro should be easy enough for the average non-expert to do.

To change the DNS settings on your Windows 10 device using Control Panel, do the following:
Open Control Panel.

  • Click on Network and Internet.
  • Click on Network and Sharing Center.
  • On the left pane, click on Change adapter settings.
  • Right-click the network interface connected to the internet, and select Properties.
