Avast Pro, says needs updating when updated

Has anyone had problems with Avast Pro updater saying that you need to update (in a Red Box) when you are up to date?? I have Vps 000707-0 yet when I first start my computer it says I need to update and when you click on it a box comes up and says you are all ready up to date, tried to reload the program and that did not help, also tried a different firewall, need not help, anyone else experience this??

Hello and welcome

What does the red box says exactly ?
Check if your system time/date is correct.

When does this occur for you?
Just after making logon or at any time?
Which were your ‘first’ and ‘second’ firewall?
Are you using XP?

Good questions  I’m using Windows XP Home, service Pack 2 (2600) and the box says the same thing each time it checks for updates, it has the new version inside it but it is in Red and says I need to update it when I really don’t need to as I all ready have the latest version, in fact you can click on it and it will tell you that you are all ready up to date, a strange one for sure :stuck_out_tongue: My
first firewall was “Windows” and the second is "PC Tools Firewall Plus " whick I like a lot better but the problem started with the windows firewall. Doesn’t seem to be a real problem as everything is working fine it is just strange that when Avast checks for updates it says I’m not up to date with its red box coming up (ever time it check for updates) and you click on it and then it says you are all ready up to day (in fact right now it is 000708-0).

XMAS Asked just excatly what did it say: It said:
“You are using old VPS (Virus database) File 00708-0 Please update it”
Now File 00708-0 is the new file so why is it asking me to update when that is the latest version, also my Time and Date are correct XMAS
Thanks for the help

You may find that if you run the start avast Enhanced User Interface that may show a different VPS version to that on about avast. I have seen this in the past when it would appear the two show a different version, somehow out of sync.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this. This has in the past resolved this sync issue.

DD, how many accounts in your computer have administrator rights and are you logged as an administrator or a common user?

Tech, I’m the only User and I’m logged in as the administrator
DD

I will give that a try now DavidR,
Thanks,
DD

No Luck DavidR, it may be something I may have to learn to live with
Thanks,
DD

Well… I don’t want to give up ;D

  1. Please, check, again, your system time and date. Specially the year… Sorry to be a pain but the symptoms reveals a problem…
  2. Can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

You are NOT a pain Tech, I appreiate all help and I’m willing to hang in there and try and fix this problem  I have uninstalled Avast Pro all ready and try reloading it, do you want me to try it again?? The year and time on my computer is all correct, it has 8:35am January 30th 2007 right now.
DD

Sure. Try again.
Please, install avast in the default folder (the one suggested by the installation program).
Keep us informed…

Tech, I just noticed when I restarted my computer my date was for August 30th 2007 instead of today’s date, after researching I found where the Windows Firewall was blocking the auto time setting so I repaired that and now will see if that helps, will let you know as soon as the next update in 30 minutes comes in

Strange… I didn’t know the Windows Firewall could do so…
It will be good, after you have avast installed, updated and running, do a full scanning of your system.
If you have other security programs, like antitrojans, it will be good to do the same.

Yes very strange I too thought it didn’t monitor outbound connections and you could only add to exceptions and there is one for my About Time client/server (not the windows default time sync), perhaps that is because it is acting as a server. Fortunately I don’t use the windows firewall, perhaps another reason to use a third party firewall.

However not being able to sync the time shouldn’t cause this issue as the system date and time would be what is monitored, how that could show Aug 30 2007 at boot yet show the correct date and time in windows is very strange.

It is working now Tech ;D THANK YOU for all your help
