Avast pro trial

Hi
Don’t know if this is the correct section or not for my query - sorry if it’s wrong. Wondering if anyone can help me? My son-in-law installed Avast Free antivirus when he set up my laptop 6 months ago and everything has been fine. But recently I presume I’ve clicked on the wrong thing when updating and seem to have had the Pro version trial installed. I’m now getting a really annoying pop-up that keeps appearing to tell me that I will get no further updates as I didn’t buy it. Will I have a useable free version + updates on the laptop? OR Do I have to remove Avast completely from my system and then reinstall the free version? I’m NOT technically minded at all, so please bear this in mind.
I use Windows 7.
Thanks

If you go to:

  • Revert from Trial Version to avast free - From the avastUI > Maintenance > Registration, scroll down to Other Options and the “Switch me back to avast! free” option is there.

Is that option there, if not has your son-in-law done a system restore recently, coinciding with this pro trial issue (some instances of that in the forums) ?

If the option to revert isn’t there, he may have to do a clean reinstall of avast free, more on that if it is required.

Thanks for you quick help DavidR.
Unfortunately, the option you suggest is not there. My son-in-law is unavailable just now (hence my own attempts), how easy is it to uninstall/reinstall?

Whilst David is away

Lets reinstall Avast

Download Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[*]Boot to Safe Mode.
[*] Restart the computer.
[*] As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
[*] Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode with Networking menu item
[*] Press Enter.
[*]Run aswClear
[*]In the Select Product to Uninstall dropdown choose the version of Avast that is on your system.

[*]Press Uninstall
[*]Once complete reboot your system to Normal Mode
[*]Reinstall Avast

The latest version of aswClear.exe can be run in normal mode, it responds with should be run in safe mode. Answering yes will boot the system into safe mode, so the user doesn’t have to get into safe mode manualy.

A Really Big Thank You to both DavidR and essexboy for all your help in getting this old granny sorted out. I managed to do it myself! (even if I was delayed by unexpected guests).
All the best to you both. ;D

You’re welcome, glad that you now have it sorted.

Thanks for the update David I will amend my instructions ;D

No problem, makes it a lot easier for the user.
