I use Avast Home 4.6.763 and have a Siemens CX65 telephone. I use the phone software that came by this phone to get data from it in windows explorer. But I have troubles with that and Avast, explorer gets slow and crashes eventually when I try to access my phone. When I turn off the Avast standard shield, everything is normal, no crashes, no slowness.
So I was wondering, is this a Avast problem of is it in my phonesoftware? I remember not having this problem when I just had my phone, so it probably went wrong when I upgraded my Avast at one day. If it’s an Avast bug I hope it can be fixed.
PS. Avast is an awesome virusscanner! ;D Keep up the good work
My pc is an Athlon64 3000+, 512MB DDR, 60GB HD, Radeon 9550 (256MB)
Operating system is Windows XP SP2 with all updates installed
What happens is that when I plug the cable of my phone in and go to explorer, normally a pictogram with Data on it appears quite fast, but now it takes a lot longer. Then when I click on Data it seems to take forever before the directories appear. When it finally appears and I click on a directory, explorer is not reacting anymore. ashServ.exe takes about 60-70% cpu-usage :o (normally 0%). Then I stop Avast’s standard shield and immediately everything is fine again, explorer reacts again and I can browse my data.
OK, the obvious question follows
What is the Standard Shield scanning then? If you open the On-access protection window (by leftclicking on avast! tray icon), switch it to detailed view (if it’s not expanded already), select Standard Shield and watch the “Last scanned” item - what is there? (at the moment of high CPU usage)
I guess the Siemens software is doing some heavy log writing, opening and closing the file many times sequentially.
I suggest to put the log file path into the list of Standard Shield exclucions (the last page of its settings) to prevent the scanning.
