I am sorry to ask about something that has probably been answered many times, but I just started my desktop after a 3 month hiatis and after putting in my registration code have found that I can’t turn Avast on. The spinning ball is gone from my taskbar. I can open the settings, and look at the simple user interface, but the avast ball on my taskbar is gone and apparently the resident protection is disabled. I don’t know how this happened as Avast is working perfectly on my laptop. I have checked the help and still can get to menu for the different Avast products, email scanning etc.

I am sure this is something simple but in looking at the help menu haven’t really been able to find what to do. Can someone direct me to the answer to this problem?
Hi roro,
What version of Avast do you have on this computer? Current version is 4.8.1335
Try going to “add/remove programs” and carry out a repair install. This is done by clicking “change/remove” and clicking “repair” at the next prompt.
Check that the system date and time is correct, also.
I have the current version and have done a repair install. I feel awfully dumb because after restarting the computer avast is running fine. After two days of driving from Florida to Maine, my mind was just not working right. I should have waited before asking for help.

Nothing wrong with asking for help anytime things aren’t right. Even if it seems obvious, it might not have seemed so at the time.
Glad that helped.
