only other scanner i have that runs is malwarebytes anti malware and thats a full version and as i said iv done repairs and complete fresh installs i did notice though that well it was doing that it was also trying to download updates
but once i signed into windows live messenger it fixed it self im starting to think it just wasnt connecting to the internet yet for some reason
as i said i had to reformat my machine and im still setting things up
yeah it all seems to be working fine now not sure why it was doing that at all but meh
im still trying to find more and better ways to secure my system what with the infection i got and i lost alot of data because of it and my hotmail was hacked
The advice I can give you is purely general in nature.
-Consider using a firewall. (2 way firewall, that is.) A two way firewall may have alerted you to a keylogger making an outbound connection.
Consider disabling or prompting to allow scripts in your browser. The NoScript add-on for Firefox is a very convenient way to prevent drive-by downloads of an unwanted payload. In IE settings to run third party and unsigned scripts should be disabled, for all but trusted sites. You should check that (probably) the only trusted site in the list is MS updates, or others you can be certain about. Any website using out of date hosting software can be hacked. Doesn’t need to be a dodgy site. I’ve even seen sites using good software have ads inserted with a hidden redirect. The webmaster obviously had not looked thoroughly at the code for the advert before accepting it.
Your hotmail was hacked. Either someone was able to work out the password - for which the answer should be fairly obvious, or something capable of sending this password was installed on your machine. Do you have any idea whether this would have been from a website, an attachment in an email, a deliberately downloaded file, or a malicious file transferred from an infected flash drive? Or was it simply (hopefully) a case of the password being easy to crack?
The items in my sig are all I use. I have in the recent past used a 2 way firewall, and decided that for me it is not necessary - a view others might not share - but I’ve been malware free for around 3 years, so something is working pretty well. Secunia PSI is a very good vulnerability checker for versions of stuff that lots of users have installed, that is often vulnerable and out of date. Java, or Flash Players being high up on the culprit list. AutorunEater should provide good protection from malicious flash drives. It will prevent the infection automatically transferring. The MVPS hosts file prevents the computer from connecting to known bad sites.
well after i got my hotmail hacked i got noscript addon for firefox and im loving it so far
and im pretty sure i know exactly when igot infected even thought my scanners didnt pick anything up
see what happened was i was talking to a friend on msn and they sent me a link to a humor site and i was surfing the site reading the jokes im pretty sure i clicked on a picture that took me off the site even though it looked exactly like the site anyway what happened was after words the computer was SUPERSLOW like stuff would take like a couple minutes to open or close i ended up scanning hte computer even rebooting and scanning and didnt find anything so i figured i was safe and i had windows live messenger set to save my username and password so i can sign in easier not sure exactly how they got the password so i think it was more then a key logger
and second i was told pretty much right away about the emails going out and was able to secure my account as for the firewall i use windows firewall i have no clue what MVPS Host file. is and before i got hacked i had just finished updating to the new flash player and stuff before hand.
oh one thing iv just noticed is when i have windows live messenger signed in but its only on the taskbar by the clock its using about 3k mem usage when i have it open so i can see my contact list its using about 60k mem usage and im not sure why its a brandnew installation and i highly doubt im infected already since im using a ligit copy of windows and all iv done is install firefox and the addons noscript and adblock plus oh and a couple computer games aside from that nothing is actually on the computer yet
