Avast Problems..registration, updating, installing new...

Hi.

I have no idea what’s going on with Avast, but it has been problematic all day long. When i started my system, i got a message saying that there was no Avast protection because my license had run out. My license does not expire until 8/8/2011 (and that was clearly shown on the screen), yet it insisted that that it had run out. I tried to get a new license, and every time i clicked the box, i got another one saying ‘retrieving information’…except the box would simply close. This happened several times. I finally clicked the box to get the new license offline. In the meantime, Avast refused to update.

So…i downloaded another version of Avast from Majorgeeks.com I uninstalled the old version, installed the new version…and THIS one will not update either. I turned off Zone Alarm Free…and it STILL won’t update. BTW…the new version wouldn’t give me a registration key either. The same thing that happened with the first version also happened with the second version. I just registered the new version with the registration number i requested this afternoon (and got hours later). I am currently updating Malwarebytes Free and plan to run it. If it comes back clean (and i suspect it will), what should i do next ???

Well the strange thing is that the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration interface doesn’t change until there are less than 14 days to go on the registration or has expired. Which means that you can’t re-register early.

So I would check your system date, day/month/year and adjust as required.

Try a Repair of Avast,

Go to My Computer/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Look For Avast in the List/ Click Remove/Click Repair/follow the prompts and than close out of everything and reboot. Does that help?
