I’ve been putting IE into the process virtualization container as is the default in Kaspersky 2010; which was our previous internet security suite. Unfortunately, with Windows XP Pro, as far as I can tell, this leads to issues, such as graphics not loading, and one computer crashes repeatedly (not even with BSoD).
The computer that crashes also has the intermittent issues with graphics not displaying. The difference between the computer that crashes and the one that doesn’t, is the version of IE. The machine that crashes has IE8 installed and the one that doesn’t has IE6 installed.
The issues seem to be graphics not loading in and javascript not loading in. There are maybe some other issues. Crashing is fixed by removing IE from the virtualized processes.
there are still bugs (things not saved when expected to get saved, or the contrary >>> bookmarks etc…), but the crashing of IE8 when virtualized was fixed very quickly, it happened during the beta testing, and never again after that… weird you still have the issue…Only thing I can say is wait for the next build update to see if it gets any better.
Just for info, Comodo newly introduced sandbox in CIS 4 is a disaster so far (I tried it very recently), and Avast still does a much better job, even if Comodo apparently offers more tweaking. Otherwise, if you really need virtualization to work flawlessly, at least until Avast sorts things out, your best option remains Sandboxie. I don’t use virtualization that much so I’ll stick to Avast for that, while keeping an eye on how things progress…
Hehe, yeah, I’ve installed the free Comodo software on an acquaintance’s PC and I have to say it can be pretty bad.
It’s a nice to have feature, but I guess that with such a new release of the software and these new features there are going to be issues. I’ll just keep reporting them in threads on the forums. It’s probably the best bet to get community feedback to the developers. I have IE8 working fine under Vista 64bit and with process virtualization.
