Ok, so I have used Avast for several years. And I really like it, in fact, I am wondering about buying the Professional edition.
But first, I want to test it. So, I downloaded it. (It also works as a 60 day trial)
So, after it was finished downloading, I installed it.
But, weird as it is, it didnt get updated to the Professional edition, and it is still the same old Home edition, even though it said that the update was successful…
What went wrong? ???
Did it ask you to reboot, if not have you ?
Did you install it to the same location ?
What have you checked to check that it is still the home edition ?
Try a Change of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Change, if the Script Blocker is there, tick it, click next and follow. You may need to be on-line to do this.
Is there an option to use the Enhanced User Interface open the simple user interface and from the menu select Switch to Enhanced User Interface.
It did not task me to reboot.
When I clicked the Pro setup file I downloaded, I could choose between: Remove, and change.
I pressed change, and continued, and the things were installed.
It didn’t give me an option to install on other directions. It was just updating or something.
After the update, I rebooted, and started Avast! And it was still Home edition, I tried the enchanced user interface, but it said I required the Professional edition for that… This is very odd.
It sounds odd as people that have tried this have had no problem.
I don’t know if you would have fared better if you ran it and selected remove, or uninstall the home version, reboot and install the pro version. Once the pro version is installed it should go through the normal ask if you want a boot-time scan you could probably skip the boot-time scan and just reboot. You would need to input a registration key, but you should be able to use the Demo Key in the same way you probably did before with the home version.
If you have already installed Home a long time ago, an antipiracy feature will block the ‘new’ trial period. When you install avast Home, until you register the free version it is installed as trial. So you are, even that you don’t know, at the second trial version.
You could ask a second trial period to sales@avast.com
If I post here how to do it, I’ll post a way to have a pirate avast and I can’t ;D
There’s unfortunately no easy way to “upgrade” a REGISTERED Home Edition to a Professional Edition TRIAL.
The only working solution is to uninstall the Home Edition, reboot, and install the Professional Edition trial. :-\
