Avast protectionconsole won't start

I installed the newest version of avast and let it run a virusscan the next time i started the computer. When i open the protectionconsole, all the tasks are offline and they won’t start when i press the begin button. Wat can i do about it? ???

Welcome to avast 8)

Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
You must be connected to the internet while repairing.

If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

Try a repair.

start > control panel > add/remove > Avast > change/remove > repair

I repaired it but still i can’t start any of the tasks in the protectionconsole. I uninstalled and installed it again several times now but i still keep this error. If anyone can help me, please…

ohyeah…i don’t have any antivirus installed on the pc except for Avast.

And how about tellin’ us what other security related programs you have installed on our PC ? What’s your system configuration, what’s the OS, exact error messages (if any) that you get ? That doesn’t cost anything, and it can help a lot in solving your problem… this way, we have no clue what’s the configuration of your system and what other programs could be causing this behaviour. When you collect those information, post back…

I believe i have none other security related programs on my pc. Os is windows xp professional.

The error message i get each time is this one. It is in dutch so i’ll try to translate it properly.

“The requested internal task could not be found.”

This is all i could find. Hope you can help me.

Well, all those information won’t tell us anything regarding your problem since there is absolutely nothing that “speaks” about the problem itself. All I can see is just some information about the type of your motherboard, BIOS and processor, nothing else really… It doesn’t mention any error report or anything similar…

So, I’m affraid, we’ll need more info…

Do you have any other antivirus previously installed on that system. I know you said you don’t have anything else, but are you 100% sure there are no leftovers from some previous antivirus ? What’s the firewall you are using ?

Can you post some screenshots where we can see exactly what it says under those providers (On-Access scanner console) ?

Thanks!

I previously had norton antivirus installed, i don’t know if i completely uninstalled everything, i just had the program uninstal itself, maybe there are some parts left but i don’t know how to get rid of them. In the control panel there is nothing left of norton so i think all is gone.

I attached a screenshot of the error, i’m sorry it is in dutch but i gave the translation already above.

And some more pictures of errors i get:s

Hmmmm… I’m sorry, but I don’t understand a word since I don’t speak Duch language. Maybe someone from Netherland could be of some help here.

Second thing, I’m 100% sure your Norton is not uninstalled completely. You didn’t even mention that in your initial post in this thread… so there we are. Uninstalling Norton just by going to Add/Remove in Windows is not enough. There are many leftovers.

Go here:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606

Download utility called Rnav2003.exe and run it. It will clean all traces of Norton on your machine. Follow all those instructions !

Since then, I can just try to help you by advising you to change your Database value from ODBC to XML in your avast4.ini file under COMMON section (see attachement). You have to change ODBC to XML. That’s all. Restart your computer and see if that helps. Make sure you erased all traces of Norton first !

Cheers !

Changing myDatabase value from ODBC to XML helped:D:D:D:D now it works!! Thanks a lot guys. I hope i won’t need to ask you again. Cya
