Avast! Quick scanner

I have put avast on my computer a few days ago and I have had problems scanning single files. The file would get scanned but the results of the scan would not show up on screen. Are the results placed somewhere? If not, the quick scan is pretty pointless… at least for the home version.

to enable the results in avastquick scanner go to program settings and select show results of explorer extension.

Thank you. I feel that option should be selected as default. Saves some headache.

I agree. This should be the default setting. It’s always annoyed me that avast! never showed the result of a right-click scan.

If I hadn’t stumbled on this post, I would never have known it was possible to see a result.

Thanks!

Yes, I too see no reason why it should not be checked by default.
But I did find out that feature sure when I first time made Avast as my antivirus, 8 months ago.

Frank, you use too many antiviruses as second hand scanners? :stuck_out_tongue:
Never missed it much enough, hehe?

I trust Avast for my real time protection, and thus use my Norman as a HD on demand scanner only ,seldom Avast.

But for downloaded program install files I do use Avast quick scan too, even though it has already Web Shield and Standard shield.

Well, the reason is probably that it’s called “quick”
It’s meant for quick manual checking (e.g. of downloaded files). If everything is OK, the windows just disappears, so you don’t have to close it. Only when an infected file is detected, the warning pops up.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence: if avast! doesn’t pop up with an answer it could be because the program is not functioning, it hasn’t been able to read the file or it was malware and somehow disabled the scanner. When avast! pops up and says ‘safe’, there is no doubt.

I’d like more this behavior… I want that this should be the default and not the contrary… :-[

It’s easier to turn off something you know about than turn on something you don’t.

You could always have a ‘please don’t show me this again’ tick box.

Yeah, you’re right…
