Avast Ransomeware Shield Not Installed, but still blocking software installs.

Trying to update On1 PhotoRaw, and Avast kills the install every time with the error in the attached screenshot. “Allowing” the app doesn’t help - the installer can’t recover from the interruption.

What’s interesting is that I despite the popup being attributed to the Ransomware Shield…I don’t have the Ransomware Shield component installed.

Any thoughts? TIA!

These are not helpful - I do not have the ransomware component installed. I do not have these options.

Why is the component triggering at all if it’s not installed?

  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

This didn’t fix the issue.

  1. Download Avast Premier Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
