Gratz to Avast!
But other antivirus vendor saying they have over 300 millions.
Avira says they have 238.871.000 Installations.
Avast counts the users.
kaspersky have 300 millions users worldwide.
You dont know if you can trust them.
Also look here: http://blog.avast.com/2013/10/28/loyal-fans-make-avast-the-most-popular-antivirus/
kaspersky has a higher user base.
However if you look at this link it indicates microsoft is higher.

Thats just confusing.
Concerning the OPSWAT article I gleaned this from their "introduction…
OPSWAT releases periodic market share reports for several sectors of the security industry. This report includes worldwide market share for antivirus, public file sharing (peer-to-peer), backup, and antiphishing applications. The data used in this report was collected on August 13, 2013. Please note that OPSWAT is not a research institution, and makes no claims on accuracy of this data in the real world marketplace; this report aims to distribute the unique data collected to inspire public discussion, not to make any claims as to why changes have occurred. To see a description of the data collection and its limitations, see the data collection section of this report.
They make “no claims on accuracy”. ???
So how does avast ascertain its usage figures then with accuracy?
How come kaspersky,s figures are put under question and yet avast figures are not?
Bit of a dilemma dont you think?
Thats one of the reasons avast get you to register as it gives them registered user data.
okay.
So how does avast know how many uninstalled their product after registration?
Server load
Also i may add that kaspersky in fact has a higher userbase.

300 million users in fact.
They probably don’t know.
One way avast gets user number data is by how many computers receive vps updates.
Which is also the most reliable way to collect data.
okay.
I watched the video and i notice that avast userbase is being compared to avg etc.
Could you please supply a link where it clearly shows avast has more users than kaspersky.
Thanks.
This topic is not about Kaspersky so please stop side tracking the thread, the topic is about avast making a milestone.
Incorrect.
In the video mr steckler clearly states that no other security vendor has reached a 200 million user milestone. However the links i have provided clearly show this to be an incorrect statement so it is very much about kaspersky when put in the context of this thread.
Its great that avast has 200 million users. But lets get the correct information put forward please.
Thanks.
So why don’t you communicate with Mr Steckler directly and ask him.
Asking us to defend what someone else said isn’t really the way to go.
I personally don’t give a rats a… how many users the others have since I don’t use their product.
Yep same here, I’m happy to be an avast user, and since 2014 version I will never look back. Long live avast!
avast! are active users (which download virus definitions recently).
I don’t know what other antivirus consider as “user”. If the user is not connected (i.e., downloading virus definitions, he/she is not an user anymore…).
Although the methodology could be criticized, the latest public market share shows things a little different…
