Avast Realtime protection - ???

I have a problem (?) with Avast! Home edition.

When I scan my PC with Avast!, it catches some of the trojan viruses like JAVA.BYTEVERIFY, JAVA.CLASSLOADER, TR/NOCHEAT.2 etc and I used to delete the files that contains the viruses. The issue is how these viruses/trojans are getting into the computer when Avast! antivirus is resident (Avast! offers realtime protection). Any ideas?. How do I prevent these viruses from getting into my PC?. I should be able to catch them and delete when ever they try to enter into my PC.

Why Avast is not able to catch when these trojans/viruses try to enter into the PC though it is able to catch them whey I do a manual scan?.

Thanks,
Balaji.

Hi,
probably because the trojan are in archive files which are not scanned by avast’S resident shield (not necessary, as they need to be unpacked to get active, then the shield would step in

use the board-searchj on how to make avast’s shield scan archives if you really want to; this wil however slow down your system quite a bit…

A better way would be to secure your system better:
apply all Windowsupdates and secure InternetExplorer: disable activeX & scripting, except for known, secure sites…
better use a more secure browser like Opera, mozilla, Netscape…
