My computer has been infected with Antivirus Pro 2009. I tried downloading and running spyware programs but when I attempt to run these, it states this file is infected. Avast prompt warning that I am infected but can’t delete the virus, Help Please. I can’t even run “help” programs from my computer, it blocks these also.
Can manage my way around the computer but not a pro, some easy help would be appreciated. Help, please.
(1) Clear all your temporary files using Windows Disk Cleanup Utility
(2) Schedule an avast Boot Time Scan
(3) Download Malwarebytes Antimalware. Install it, update it, then run a scan.
(4) Let MBAM remove what it found. Reboot if necessary.
(5) Download Hijack This. Install it then run. Select run a scan & save a log file. Post your log file here.
By the way, you told me that you downloaded some antispyware programs, would you please enumerate those and since step 1 can’t be done, proceed to the next steps:
(2) Schedule an avast Boot Time Scan
(3) Download Malwarebytes Antimalware. Install it, update it, then run a scan.
(4) Let MBAM remove what it found. Reboot if necessary.
(5) Download Hijack This. Install it then run. Select run a scan & save a log file. Post your log file here.
When I attempt to run disc cleanup a prompt appears, states that file is infected and gives me the option to either run their antivirus scan or not, if I select Yes, then their scan appears and runs.
I downloaded Malware but I can’t run it. Again a prompt stating that file is infected.
I will try as you suggested, wuill get back to you ASAP.
I am familiar with disk cleanup. When I accessed disk clean up and attempted to run it, a prompt appeared that stated it was infected, when you click the box, Yes run the antivirus program, The antivirus Pro pops up, opens and runs a scan.
Think we fixed it here, so far no more signs of Antivirus Pro.
My next concern, how do I prevent this type of virus in the future?? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Now I see, it was Antivirus Pro that’s causing it. By the way, have you completed all the steps?
To prevent it? Don’t download anything immediately. If possible, download programs from trustworthy sites like CNET. If it can’t be helped but to download from a third party web site, always scan the file before installing. If possible, submit it to VirusTotal.
