About a week ago I noticed that my internet had slowed down quite a lot, at first I assumed
it was a temporary ISP issue so I let it be for a while. Yesterday I decided to phone my ISP
to see if their is an issue on there end and they confirmed that everything was ok, so I started
to check my machine for issues.
I have Comodo as my firewall I tried disabling that first and it made no difference then I tried
disabling Avast and my speed is back, so I am positive this is an Avast issue.
I realise their maybe some slowdown when it is enabled, but a 4mb slowdown is surely not rite.
I have had Avast installed for a few months now and had no problems, yet this has just started
occurring within the last week, has their been any update that could have caused this? or is
there anything I can do to correct this? if not Avast will have to go.
The Comodo Firewall does not slow anything down and so far, I haven’t noticed that Avast! does either. I have run the tests at Speedtest.net and I get the same results with Avast! on or off.
My speed is always the same whether I am using Avast or not.
I test my speed all the time and have not had any speed issues
in the short time(2 months) I been using this great program.
I hope you get to the bottom of the problem and keep Avast.
Bo
Why would I want to do that? Comodo is not causing any problems it is Avast that
is causing the problems! Unless someone can give me an answer on how to FIX this
then I will be dumping Avast it isn’t worth the hassle.
Do you mean the speed is decreased without the firewall?
If so, it will be directly due to avast Web Shield…
Something is weird in last days… updates, system that couldn’t connect the Internet…
Seems that something is happening in the woods and avast team is not making any publicity of it… So, we lose time trying to help what we do not understand…
Yes that is correct, it is still decreased by roughly the same amount.
I have noticed a few other people having similar issues, Avast should really let
people know what is going on, is their anyway of rolling back updates to see if
one of the updates is causing the issue?
Hi syler! I am intriged about you problem, I have the same problem some time ago and it dissapear as it came. I would suggest you shut down the web shield of Avast! and see how that go… have you trying it? not the whole program, just the web shield. If thats the case then you have some options: let the ber shield off when you leave the pc downloading something until a nwe update from Avast! fix the issue.
I have tried disabling the web shield and it does seem to work, although it still seems a bit laggy when I
am watching TV online, unless I fully disable Avast. The problem is I don’t want to be disabling any of my
protection at all, so it isn’t really a fix and it leaves me exposed, I am going to give this one more day and
if it hasn’t been fixed then I am just going to reinstall Comodo with AntiVirus.
Hi syler,
it would be iterresting to find out which provider is responsible for that. You might try disabling behaviour shield or networks shield as well.
You might try just disabling Intelligent Stream Scanning in WebShield (Expert Settings). I have 2 wireless laptops that have speeds reduced by about 30% when that’s enabled. It does not seem to reduce your protection when disabled.
I use AT&T’s U-Verse Max ISP and just finished a session with their tech support on why my download speed speed (speedtest.net) was only 1.9 MBS. I disabled my firewire as they claim to have a H/W firewire built in. This did nothing to the speed issue. When I disabled Avast download speed went to 11.5 MBS. Is anybody listening at Avast?
My ISP claims to give me 16meg, which of course i never have, but speedtest.net clocks me around 13-15, depending on time of day, not nearly the disparity you report. You can try turning off the shields individually to try and troubleshoot?
I am having the same problem here. My internet connection speed was fine until Avast updated to version 5.0.545, then connection speed slowed down dramatically, slow page loading, slow tab opening and pages locking up.
Before I isolated Avast as the culprit, I disabled ZoneAlarm and Malware AntiMalware, no difference. Talked to IT guy at work, told me to disable the Behaviour Shield on Avast. I tried that and my connection speed is back to normal, no more slow loading of pages or tabs.
Saw many topics on similar issues and was not sure which topic to choose.
