Avast reg

Hi

I uninstall Avast Professional edition but now if i go to windows security center it says there is more than 1 antivirus and one is is up to date.

I have in the registry in the Alwil folder default REG_ZS is this okay to delete.

Also in services it had Avast Web scanner and it was set to automatic been changed to disable.

Is this normal for these to be left ."

I have reinstalled NIS 2005

I am using Windows XP SP2

Cheers

Won’t this help: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html
But the keys should not left behind… Did you boot after uninstalling?

Hi Tech

Yes i rebooted after uninstalling Avast.

I tried the link you put in your post and i could not locate the folder anywhere.
The only place i can find any folder is in the registry by using regedit and as i am a novice and don’t want to delete it from registry yet as i don’t know if it will cause any problems.

By the way everything is working fine.

Cheers

Use the link to aswClear.exe from Tech and run that util.
It will take care of the registry for you in a safe way.

Ok, just run it… the folder is just to delete the files, if you cannot locate the files are gone.
If this not work, use the default folder: C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\

Hi Tech and Eddy

I ran the aswClear.exe come back saying avast is now clesr etc.

But what was there before i ran it is still there

Alwil folder default REG_ZS is still in the registry
windows security center it says there is more than 1 antivirus and one is is up to date.

I also rebooted.

Bad desinstallation
You can delete the entire key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ALWIL Software and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ALWIL Software).
If you wan, save them before, for caution and backup…

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_ANTIVIRUS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_MAIL_SCANNER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_WEB_SCANNER

and any other related could be backuped and deleted…

Anyway, which is your ‘another’ antivirus?

HI Tech

I used Avast uninstaller to uninstall avast.

I am now using Nortons Internet Security 2005 as my Anti Virus.

I will delete the registrys keys etc later.

Do you need to reboot after deleting registry keys as i have never done this before and i am also on dial up.
Cheers.

Oh, to Central Security recognize the new system I think so…
Maybe it works only disabling the CS service and enabling it again (wscsvc service): Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services. Boot will be easier… 8)

THEY deleted okay

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_ANTIVIRUS
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_MAIL_SCANNER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_WEB_SCANNER

Could only findHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_AVAST!_WEB_SCANN
Would not let me delete.

Rebooted and when the system started up i was told to register windows as i have made significant changes to the hardware .

I think every thing is still working okay but i will just leave any registry of avast there before I do any damage :-[ as i don’t know what I am doing.

Thanks for your help Tech

Cheers

Ok. You’ve said that only WebShield have ‘remained’.
The key should be deleted from the bottom, subdirectory by subdirectory. Starting from the 0000 folder and then to the root LEGACY_AVAST!_WEB_SCANNER

Well, never heard this message…

Sorry that avast! did not work for you… at least you know here you could receive support. I don’t think you will at Symantec…

Hi Tech

Thanks for your help

Wish you all the best

Cheers

Oh dear … but all the best anyway!! Watch out for spam e-mail from Norton themselves, and see you back here in a few months ::slight_smile:

Hi Mick Sturbes

All the best to you and all the members of Avast forums.
Who knows maybe i will be back.
Cheers
