Hello All,
I still run Win. XP SP#3., Avast Home/Pro free. SuperAntispyware.
I just ran an avast full system scan. After scan report revealed that Some files could not be scanned.
The files seemed to be local settings/Temp files. The program recommended that I sent the files to the chest.
I attempted so to do but I could not select any of the file and the button to depress to send hem to the chest was greyed out.
I got the feeing that that the case was a false positive. The reason being that I earlied receive a program update from Adobe from Reader 9 to Reader 10.
Have you had any of those experiences.
I do require you forums assistance in solving the problem and so thank you in advance for you consideration.

that is normal......
files that can not be scanned are just that, it does not mean they are infected
avast is just reporting a scan error and the reason why
files that are infected are detected with a malware name
The program recommended that I sent the files to the chest.
and where do you see that?

yes.....the forum is full of this if you search
Hello Pondus,
Thank you for your reply thread.
Subsequent to the time of submitting my initial post, I scheduled a Bootup scan. Upon that scan being done Avast reported the following :- Ap Data Adobe Setup "AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A95000000001/Data.cab/>AcroRd32.exe is infected.
I sent same to the Chest.
It seems that it was not a false positive at all. I thought so because It appeared to have come from Adobe which is a trusted site.
This corresponds with bunch of files which it was reported “could not be scanned” and which said files could not be sent to the chest at the time.
Can these files be removed/deleted from the chest without doing any harm to the system? or just leave them there to cool off until it is safe to restore?
Your kind attention will be appreciated.
standeb.

as i said above......files that can not be scanned are just that and does not mean they are infected
and since they are not malware, they are of no intrest to avast antivirus…and no action can be taken
the scan result should tell you why avast cant scan them
you may attach a screenshot of the scan result here. then we may be able to give you more info
You can always send or add ANY files or programs to the chest that you aren’t sure about, and as long as they are in the chest, they can’t compromise you, or your system’s information.
