Hi, I just want to know what Avast does when it detects malware?
I did a full scan on my pc and after that it showed me some threats that were discovered.
Does it immediately block it or refrain it from functioning? or does it JUST SHOW and let us know that we have to take action?
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member. Not I don’t use the Avast One product (but my guess would be the same scan procedure) - which Avast One product do you have ?
Without details it is almost impossible to suggest a course of action.
That said I feel this is the So Called Smart Scan ?
A screenshot would have been very helpful.
If so:
- It isn’t just looking for infected files.
- but also vulnerabilities and weaknesses (threat as you call them).
- Should it find any of these if probably has a paid solution to resolve the potential weakness.
With a resident (on-access) scanner the need for on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part dormant/inert files are being scanned, the other active files are going to be scanned by the resident shields when they are activated.
hi, this is what i mean with avast detecting malware. at first it was shown as color red (indicating that its a threat and there are steps needed to be done to resolve it). but what im curious about is if the software blocks the threat as soon as it detects it? or is it just a warning like “hey! u got malware on ur pc, what do u wanna do about it?” and just waits for the user’s action?
and idk about the avast one product, i just have this avast antivirus software downloaded for virus detection etc.
You have posted in the Avast One sub-forum, so my assumption (dangerous I know) was that you were using one of the Avast One antivirus products.
Ordinarily in the Avast Antivirus product range, Free that I’m using, Premium and Ultimate. There are some differences in the components and user interface of both product ranges.
It is so long ago that I ran an on-demand scan, but the scan results had basically three choices, send to quarantine (a secure location), add an exclusion, or delete and possible ignore. Unfortunately the cropped image doesn’t show anything other than three check marks.
Not knowing what you downloaded makes it very difficult to make any suggestion. Essentially any antivirus scan that you run should come up with results but also have options as to what action to take.
OK I downloaded the Eicar-Test file, it is a harmless file used to test antivirus programs to see that they alert.
I then ran a scan of the drive that I put it in.
Had you posted the full screen image you would have seen what actions would be taken in order.
Repaired (unlikely), Quarantined, or Deleted. It is unlikely that it could be repaired, so it should be in the Avast Virus Chest (Quarantine), if that wasn’t possible the last resort would be Deletion.
Hopefully you will be able to find it in the Quarantine location.
