Avast Rootkit scans do not work

I have an issue with Avast’s Rootkit scans on this Desktop. When I queue up a custom scan just with Rootkits(full) it only scans my running processes one would find in Task Manager, only 59 in total. On my Notebook this same scan goes through all my HHDs taking over an hour to complete. I tried the standalone avast rootkit scanner, aswar.exe, but it pops up an error stating it can not open c: drive. It stops scanning after this error. Malwarebytes Rootkit scanner does seem to work but it doesnt scan anything close to the amount of files Avast does on my Notebook. I have tried reinstalling Avast but this doesnt solve the issue. I have ran a boot-time scan but it hasn’t found anything. However given that Avast was giving me issues I can not count on the boot-time scan being reliable.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I ran a few scan using programs listed in the Virus and Worms section. AswMBR didnt find anything, Roguekiller showed my DNS, Proxy, one of the aswMBR and two desktop icons under registry. I fixed the two icon which were My Computer and “Username” folder. I tried to run Avast’s Rootkit scans in safe mode but it didnt even scan a single file using quick and full. Sophos’s anti-rootkit scanner scanned my system for 7 minutes but I can not tell what files where scanned as I can not find a log. I knew it did scan different folders such as windows and Program files as well as my other HDD. TDSS didnt find anything nor did aswMBR
