avast running at 100MB

Hi

I`m running Avast home edition with 3 providers running at 100MB memory usage!
Question: Is that memory usage considered normal for the use of Avast or my machine is having some problem?

Thanks

from where did u get that data?

edit: 6 providers running: around 40 mb roughly, according to task manager

I have network, shield, and web providers running, 34MB according to taskmanager. XPsp2

Restart your OS and see what taskmanager says before doing anything else. See if it varies significantly as the day goes on.

I don’t think thats normal since you only have 3 providers running.
Check if VRDB is running.

Depends… Seems normal. Is your browser opened, which is your browser, are there many tabs opened?
Don’t worry that much about memory usage. It’s not, in this case, a symptom of infection.

I use Firefox browser ,with only three or four tabs opened. Im not concerned about infection, it is the abnormal amount of memory usage that Im worried about.

my provider didnt use mush here

It sounds about normal depending on your providers and which memory column you are looking at.
(graphic is Vista (working Set & Private Bytes) corressponding to MEM and VM in XP task manager)

crow, if you suspect of an infection, follow the general cleaning procedure.
Anyway, your computer seems to be clean. The memory usage seems normal.

General cleaning procedure:

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Do you type that all the time or just copy paste?

I use FlashPaste http://flashpaste.com/

Isn’t the program paid?

There is a freeware version and a paid one.
I’ve received my pro version as a gift for a work I’ve done for them
