avast sandbox

i just bought avast IS, finally replaced the free version!

I have vista 64 bit, and when i use google chrome in the sandbox, avast says its running all fine, but i dont see the red line around chrome saying that im inside of the sandbox!

thanks!

Of course, you’ve set the avast sandbox to do so, haven’t you?

well i did a reboot and now im seeing the red line! thanks!

You’re welcome.

Anyway, from time to time you still may notice some problems with red border, because there’re a few applications which use own skin & own functions to draw GUI. Avast sandbox’s library had some problems to co-operate with them, but I have already modified red border algorithm during this weekend and it seems all complains were solved:

 • problem with similar skinable applications (maybe even Chome on some OSes)
 • multiple desktop support (reported by bassoprofundo)
 • some issues with maximized applications (e.g. unable to close them by double-clicking in upper left corner)
 • removed occasional free gap between app & taskbar (reported by Tech)

however, it’ll require some days to test it with various applications so I’m sorry if it won’t be included in upcoming release… we’ll see…

Hey Peter

Take your time m8, we will be patient

Hello,

I also have Vista 64 bit, Chrome and the sandbox activated for it.
FF and IE run with a red border, but Chrome doesn’t…
I don’t use any skin, just the standard version 4.1.249.1045 (42898)

Notice that Chrome installs on:
C:\Users\Me\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe
and not in Programs.

So is it protected, or not?

Regards,
Fabrice

Well to be honest… your not well protected with FF or IE in sandbox because you have 64 bit… But you do still have avast as anti virus!

ulybka4444: you’re protected and build 462 doesn’t show red border around some skinned applications (e.g. chrome), this will be fixed in upcoming program update.

gtafanboy: avast sandbox works in both 32 and 64-bit mode

Wouldn’t be easier to change titlebar address as well as a fallback feature?

Like this:
SANDBOXED - Mozilla Firefox

So even if boarder is not drawn, you can still read it from title bar.

Yeah, good sugestion RejZoR

Greetz, Red.

wouldn’t it be fair to tell people that Google Chrome is already sandboxed (without the need of any additional virtualizing software) ???

You’re right, this option is already implemented and it should be available in the program update after next…

We were thinking about ass or fish tags…

no, just kidding - we’ve decided for something else ;D

Lol ;D

But where is the Easter update/release you promised us Peter ??? On the other hand, I will settle for a bottle of whiskey too ::slight_smile:

Greetz, Red.

Hi Petr
Thinking that you guys must be really busy working solely on a solution to the problem I emailed you about. ;D that being, sandboxed programs “in limbo”, listed as processes but not appearing on screen.

I’ve tried to be patient as I wait for a possible solution. Should the next revision give me any hope?

P.S. I prefer the fish.

When i run ff sandboxed it works just fine. When i try to run IE sandboxed Vista crashes completely and the laptop boots automatically. Does anyone know what’s the matter?

Marc L

Marc, could you please send me (kurtin@avast.com) a couple of latest minidump files from \Windows\Minidump folder? They contain information about the crash, thanks.

I’ve done that

is there any solution already :frowning:
