I have just installed Avast and it shows firewall not available. I have just remove AVG antivirus because a trojan got past it. I have cleaned up mess and not want to activate the firewall. Did Avg leave something behind?

Only avast! Internet Security has a firewall. Or is that what you installed and got that message?
If not, you might want to download a trial version and give it a …trial. ![]()

Add/remove will not be enough to completely remove all of AVG nor will their included uninstaller. You will need to use the AVG removal tool available from AVG.
You can try Revo uninstaller:http://www.revouninstaller.com/.Remember to download the free version not the PRO version.
Revo is not recommended for removing security software (or any software that requires a reboot after uninstalling)

Here is the uninstaller tool for AVG: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools, then reboot your machine. The other posters are correct in the you should NOT use Revo for uninstalling security software, especially AV’s.
After this, since you had to resident AV’s on your machine, you can try an Avast Repair:
If this fails to work because Avast was corrupt because you also had AVG on your system, then you will need to do an Avast uninstall and clean install:
Let us know if this fixes your problems. Thank you.
Avast appears to be working.
Thanks to all who commented.
I had to download AVG removal tool and run.
I had to uninstall Avast and reinstall clean copy. I used USB flash drive to get Avast 5 from clean source. It loaded fine and appears to be working fine.
Again, thanks to all for assistance.
