avast says script blocking

Hello, I’m new. Took me a long time to figure out how to post a message. I have avast home antivirus. I recently installed a graphic program Corel PSPX2. It will not run. It starts up and then a message, error will shut down etc. For a while whenever I would open any program I would get a pop up window, “avast script blocking.” I have been told that this might be the reason why my PSP program will not run. Can anyone give me any info on this and if it is the cause then what can I do about it. I haven’t seen the message for a few days now but the PSP still will not run. Appreciate any help. I hope I can figure out how to see any replies. Thanks

The splash screen is just a notification that the script blocker is running. Like other avast shields, it doesn’t take autonomous or silent action (unless you have set that up, only available in the Pro version), it scans and alerts to infection, but doesn’t block as such.

Are you sure you have the Home version and not the Pro Trial as the script blocker isn’t a part of the Home version ?

So I’m unsure what the problem is, but I don’t think it is related to the actual script blocker provider.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Thanks for your prompt reply. Well at least I now know that avast is not the problem. Yes I did have another anti virus at one time. It was Ad-Aware but that was sometime ago. I guess I got rid of it by Add/Remove. I just reinstalled an earilier version of PSP and it went fine and is working with no problems but X2 still will not work. As to my avast version, Home verus Pro. I’ve ended up in a very confusing situation with that. It must be home because I now no longer get the pop up window “script blocking.” Someone on the PSP forum advised me to uninstall avast to see if that helped and of course it didn’t. But now I was without avast and no antivirus so I manage to get a phone number for avast and told them what I had done and now how could I get it back as I know I did have the Pro and was paying for it. They told me that I now had to download the paid version and pay again. I didn’t think this was right but I went ahead and did it as I think my year was near up anyway. I downloaded the Pro but it doesn’t say Pro it says Home so now I’m not sure what I’ve done wrong. I’m waiting to see if I hear any thing from avast. Wow I’m sorry this is so long. Thanks

Well AdAware isn’t an antivirus application but anti-ad/spyware and IMHO a pretty poor one.

So that shouldn’t conflict with avast unless you had the paid option with AdWatch which monitors startup items and that had been known to block the avast icon. However, if you uninstalled it that wouldn’t be an issue.

You may have downloaded the Pro version, but if you don’t enter a valid Pro licence key after 60 days (unrestricted trial) it would revert the the Home version. If during that period you uninstalled it, that 60 days ends, if you subsequently reinstall the pro version the trial is restricted to 6 days (this is an anti-piracy measure to prevent reinstallation to extend the 60 days).

If you paid for the Pro version previously you would have been sent a licence key in an email, if you saved that email you can re-enter that licence key (assuming it is still valid) and the Home version would be converted to the Pro version (you would need to be on-line when doing that). If that original license has expired you would need to purchase another licence and enter that licence key when you receive it.

Hello DavidR. Once again thanks for your prompt reply. I went back to the avast opening and clicked Registration. This time I put in the new key I had and it then switched from Home to Professional. I had put in my previous key which I thought was for my renewal of avast. Well anyway I’ve got professional back now. Thanks for all your advise. I still can’t get my PSP to work but that’s not an avast issue. Also my pop up window is different than before if I click “a” in the sys tray. On my other proffessional the window showed Normal, Med, Custom, and it was set on Custom. Now the new proffessional says Normal, High and it’s set on Normal. Is this where I should leave the slider or should I go to High. Thanks again. PS. I lived in England for eight years and married an english girl. I trully loved it there. I was stationed at South Ruislip, Middlesex.

You’re welcome, unfortunately I can’t help with the PSP issue I don’t have one so have no practical experience of it.

Is there Details… >> button in that screen, I suspect that there is, click that and it will expand the window to what you are more used to.

No, Normal level is the best balance between protection and performance. Let it on Normal

Thank you all for your help. As being new on this forum I found it very confusing on how to post a message. I now find that if I read a reply then after that if I close it and want to go back later I had to search all over trying to figure out how to relocate it. But perhaps that’s just me. Thanks

Try clicking the Notify button at the bottom of the page when there is a new reply you should get an email, the same should be true for topics that you create or contribute to. So check your email ;D

There is nothing to stop you ‘bookmarking’ the page as you would any other in your browser.

You may also be able to click the Profile button (there are restrictions to what you can change until you have 20 posts), and you may be able to click the Show the last posts of this person link.

The bookmark option is however the simplest option ;D
