Could anyone help me to answer these questions, please:
An Avast scan of a computer has revealed several threats. The ones I am going to ask about now are several entries like these (from C: on the computer)
\Users\Administrator\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\21\5bc2f55-47dcff9|>Lucene.class Java:Agent-BIX [Expl] (0)
Is there any more information available about Java:Agent-BIX?
Does “Agent” imply that it installs other malicious software, such as trojans?
Would this imply that the computer was compromised?
Would this imply that an attacker had full access to the computer - for example being able to store files anywhere?
usually trying to use vulnerabilities in browsers / java
if your OS and all programs are updated (security holes are fixed) then you probably are safe even i if your AV does not detect, unless it is very new
Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disableJava in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)
