I just noticed when you add something to the Recycle Bin there is a Avast scan item on the right click context menu.
As I never noticed that before is it something new with the last few builds and can it be removed as I do not like having extra items on the Recycle Bin context menu!
I still want it on all files right click context menus like in folders and such but really do not need it it things I put in the Recycle Bin.
Yes I’ve noticed that as well…not sure what the purpose is?
As I don’t monitor right click menus, it doesn’t bother me.
I’m sure other Avast user will have more info on the entry.
I want my Recycle Bin right click context menu to be as clean as possible and by Avast now adding a useless scan item makes it more messy!
And I say useless because if it is in the Recycle Bin why would I still need to scan it if I put it in the trash to get rid of?
And anyway I do NOT like using software that add any kind of items to right click context menus with out the option to remove them.
This is not a smart move by Avast and I hope they will either remove it or at the very least add an option in the settings to hide it on the Recycle Bin.
I think it’s annoying as well but my main problem is that the file names are messed up, it’s always the dollar symbol followed by random letters and numbers.
Well I sent feedback to Avast about this so hopefully they agree with me and do something about it.
Been using Avast for years and years so I am wondering why they all of a sudden thought it was a good idea to add a Avast Scan item to the Recycle Bin.
I don’t think the “Scan” context menu on the Recycle bin was the main objective. The Recycle bin context menu was extended with “Shred” option (in the Premier edition of Avast) - and because of that, the shell extension started to handle Recycle bin as well. So the “Scan” item is more of a side effect I guess… but if it works, personally I don’t have a problem with that.
Don’t bother with the hunt of keys via RegEdit. I tried and spent too much time looking for easy fix.
Easiest and the best is to use ShellEx - what you need to do is:
Open ShellEx (nirsoft can be visited if you need to download it)
sort by name
find “avast” entries (there should be the two total items)
disable both
reset computer
File/doc right-click context menu will no longer have Avast shortcut
Recycle Bin will no longer have Avast shortcut in the context menu when Recycle Bin is full.
