Avast Scan ran 9hrs???

Hi,

I have not been able to do a full system scan with Avast. I tried today and it ran for 9 hrs! I finally stopped it when it seemed to be checking the same files over again. What should I do? I have winMe and an 80gig HD with 256 megs ram.

Do you have archive scanning turned on?
That can extend the scanning time considerably.

Also, it may be worth trying to turn on generation of the report file in the program settings. Even for “OK” (i.e. non-infected) files. By examining the report, we can see what exactly was scanned…

What are your HD characteristics? Like RPM and internal cache?
5400RPM 2MB cache disks tend to be extremely slow when using Thorough (or even with Standard) scan with Archives enabled

Running checkdisk before running a scan may help, as well as disabling all running applications while performing the scan.
