Avast scan stops after 50%

I had AVG on the laptop and nothing was found. I changed to Avast Pro 5 and it found 2 virus’s. The first was (Java:agent’s [trj]). I did a boot scan and it cleaned that one. The next day I did a full scan and found ( win32:malware). Avast fixed this one also. But when I do a Full scan I only get to 52% then 71% then 68%. Each time the scan gets to above 52%,the farthest was 71% it just stops. It Say’s it is scanning but after 2 hours nothing changed and I was still at 52%. Can anyone give advice on this problem. I have my Laptop and a Desktop that I also put Avast Pro on and have no issues. I just installed Avast on all my computers on April 20,2010. 2 laptops and 1 desktop. Also Mbam finds nothing in the full scan.

Which file is being scanned when it hangs?

I answered the other post that you made about this, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=26818.msg496481#msg496481. Posting multiple posts on the same problem just duplicates effort for those trying to help.

it say’s: ( C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-i…tocolimplementation_31bf38…\WininetPlugin.dll )

Sorry about the other post I am new in the forum so I will keep it in mind to only post to one area.

DavidR , I read your comment on the other post. I used the AVG removal tool to clear AVG from all 3 computers and I removed AVG completely. I am using The Avast Firewall that comes with AIS. I just tried again to run a full scan at 1100 hrs and it stopped at the file name …( C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-i…tocolimplementation_31bf38…\WininetPlugin.dll[ )… The quick scan runs without any trouble. I did a Bootscan last night and it ran without any trouble. It is only the Full scan that hangs up. Also it is only the 1 laptop that I am having trouble with. Thanks for any assistance you can give.

OK the firewall I was thinking of that impacts on some peoples scans was Zone Alarm as it has some sort of hook into the system restore (system information folder).

It is a little strange that it only gets so far, yet that % isn’t fixed, so it is unlikely to be the same folder that has any issue and could possibly be temperature related. Are you able to monitor temperature during the scan as the full scan could put come load on the RAM, HDD and CPU increasing temperatures. If so check/monitor the temperatures during the scan.

Ok I am running a scan now for Avast support. I will monitor the temp,I now my AMD gets hot but the affected machine is an Intel. But thanks I will watch it now.

You’re welcome, good hunting.
