I’ve just done a full virus scan and I’m completely confused by the final result. At the end of the scan I was confronted by a screen, consisting many lines of statistics. Each and every line said the same thing…“unable to scan ar”
Can anyone tell me what on earth this means? Have I completed the scan? As it states “unable to scan” it seems to mean that , the scan either, malfunctioned or was not completed, for some reason.
However, when the Avast main shield revealed itself, it stated “no infection found”
Can anyone help?
Generally that will because you have done a full archive scan and Avast has tried to scan archive files that are corrupt or password sealed. I usually find that they are Java Jar files and spybot quarantine items. If there are no virus detections when you open the archives (when standard shield will scan them ) then you are OK - unless anyone else knows different…
There are many reasons that files can’t be scanned, such as password protected or encrypted, avast doesn’t know the passwords or encryption algorithm.
It doesn’t mean that the file is infected, simply that it couldn’t scan it.
Can you give a few examples of the reasons why they can’t be scanned including the path of the file that can’t be scanned.
Ok David and Essex boy I think you’ve both allayed my concerns, main screen says clear… I’ll go with that. Cheers lads.
