I have a little problem with Avast.
When he scans a video file it takes minutes…
He is block for a least 10 minutes (see attached screenshot)
Is it normal? Is it a problem with my scanner? Can I fix that ?
It’s because of the scanning type. If you scan a video file in “Thorough scan” mode, it will take such a long time since the whole parts of the file is scanned. If you don’t want to wait, you can use “Standard scan”. When it is set to standard, the all files are scanned but not the whole parts of the files.
Edit: I’ve mentioned these for the scanner which can be executed from the program interface. For the quick scanner you can’t change the settings in home version I think. But in pro version it’s possible.
For the Standard Shield provider (on-access scanning):
Left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click on the provider icon at left and then Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and click on Add button…
For the other providers (on-demand scanning such as the screen-saver or the Simple User Interface):
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Program Settings.
Go to Exclusions tab and click on Add button…
You can use wildcards like * and ?.
But be careful, you should ‘exclude’ that many files that let your system in danger.
If I were you, I’ll try to investigate if there is a solution to your problem and not only a workaround…
But that setting does not affect the quick scanner. It affects the scanner which can be executed from the simple user interface. You cannot configure the quick scanner in the home version. As I mentioned at the previous message, it is possible in the professional version. So if you do not want to wait such a long time, you can run the scanner located in the simple user interface (with the standard mode).
It is possible. Switch to enhanced user interface, then open the program settings window from there. There is an additional part named “Enhanced Interface”. Select the option (I couldn’t remember its name) there. After that you can edit the tasks “Explorer Extension” and “Screen saver” in the task pane in the enhanced user interface.
