Avast scanner wont start, ashAvast

My avast anti virus scanner wont start. I double clicked on the desktop icon, went to the source in program files, uninstalled it with an avast removing tool then reinstalled it, and tried to run ashAvast.exe in run the virus scanner just wont start!!! The on access scanning works fine. I am running home free version. When i first got it it worked perfectly fine and i got the product key for it too and only been using it for a month.Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you run ashSimp2.exe from avast folder?
Was there any other antivirus in this computer before avast? How did you uninstall it?
Are you running Vista or XP?

i run xp pro and ashsip2.exe works fine. Before i had comodo internet security. To remove it i just went to add remove programs.
thank you

So, something with the skins are messed. You can try to repair your installation or even download a new skin from avast site and try.

Ive downloaded a new skin, it opened up after the install
but still does no open when i click on the icon.

You can try to repair your installation
,how do i do that?

Welcome to the forums, needzhelp.

To do a repair of avast :

Control panel > Add/remove programs > click once on avast to select it > click on Change/Remove > scroll down the left pane and click on repair > click OK> follow directions

~NOTE~ you must be on-line for this to work.

No Charley, this is not true (anymore). You can do it offline.

Thanks, Tech … I need to update my macro. :-[

Done !

I repaired the installation, still no result. Ive also noticed that avast does not automatically update itself like it use too. I went to the avast program settings to make sure automatic update was check it was.
