There are many factors that affect your scan speed. How much data there is on your drive, how many files are archived, the size of the archives and whether or not you are doing a thorough scan. My system takes about 15 minutes for about 10GB of data.
You don’t say how big your disk is (and what its content is), but in general I don’t think that the stated time is too long. Scanning the archives can certainly take a lot of time.
Run CCleaner before a scan to remove all unnecessary files so that avast! doesn’t waste time scanning them.
It was about 147 GB and I have a lot of archives (rar, ZIP), sometimes these archives are big about some hundred of MB.
It took 3 hours.
Bye
Hi Falcon, you can speed things up with PC management and the Exclusion option in Avast!
Set your PC up with the appropriate directories (folders) for your music, movie backups, pictures, backup data and other large files that stand little chance of being infected.
Once you’ve done a complete through scan and everything is clean you can put those folders in the Exclusion list. Any new data added to these folders can be scanned before doing so. You can also from time to time Right Click Scan these folders separately (fast!) to ensure they aren’t infected.
Think about it, if you have some huge file like an ISO of a game or something how many times does it need to be scanned ?
I also agree with xistenz, keeping your PC clean of unneeded cache, temp files and log files will speed things up.
Most of the work has already been done through Avast! great protection modules, I think it would be hard for something to slip through (unless no definition) Webshield, Mail scanner and Standard Shield.
Avast works fast and complete for me
that time gives only 14MB/s speed … yes that seems very slow …
