When Avast runs a scheduled full scan it displays the error message:
“can’t scan boot record”
Avast’s scan report gives these details:
“Some files could not be scanned”
"Drive D: Boot Record
“Error: No more data is available (259)”
Drive D is the DVD/CD drive and the disk in it is a commercial audio CD.
I’m running the latest version of Avast Free: Avast 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.0)
Settings - Scan Areas are:
(1) All hard disks
(2) All removable media
(3) rootkits (full scan)
OS = Windows XP Pro SP3.
This error did not occur with previous versions of Avast Free.
This error does not occur with other computers running same version of Avast Free, same Scan Areas Settings and same OS.
When I scanned the same audio CD with Avast from the Explorer context menu there was no problem & no threat.
I did a repair of Avast from the Control Panel; problem still exists.
Any explanations or suggestions for resolving this?
