avast scans control panel items which results in VERY slow control panel opening

is avast supposed to scan the control panel item ‘Programs and Features’(Windows 7) when trying to view the installed programs? the scan REALLY slows down access to the installed programs. at times this seems to be intermittent in nature, but it still does it most of the time.

any thots appreciated!!

Welcome to the forums, emilemma

Since I have no experience with W7, I can not be of much help.
But, have you changed any of the scan settings in avast?

Hopefully, someone else will be able to help you soon.

No delay at all on my Win7 system

Yes avast scans my programs and features when i click on them but no slow down, orang ball spins once. Might depend on how many programs you have or if you have very low system spec’s if it’s taking to long :-\

i only have 33 pgms installed. what happens when i access ‘progams and features’ in ctl panel is: the first 21 pgms display immediately and then the slowdown starts. i checked task mgr and the ‘avastsvc.exe’ module is running using approx. 80-90 pct of cpu time and the tray icon spins and spins. this takes about 30 seconds. it acts as tho it is scanning each pgm for a virus. when i uninstall avast all the pgms display immediately(less than 1 second). i checked all settings and can’t see where anything is wrong. i know this is not a big deal, but it is annoying and i don’t think it should be happening.
sure wish i had an answer.

Have you changed any of avasts default scanning setting’s? make sure that scan all file’s is not ticked in file system shield/ scan when opening.

i checked the ‘scan all files’ in file system shield and it is not checked off.

just uninstalled and did new install and the problem is resolved. i must have had some setting checked incorrectly, but sure do not know what it was.

thanks for all replies!!!

Ok glad it’s fixed for you
