Avast scans forever and slow OE

Hi
I had Symantec Antivirus – thought I was “safe”. But then I couldn’t open certain folders and files, my Google search results was hijacked, my PC crashed all the time and I could not play DVDs (pictures just little squares and no sound). I tried all my usual programs: Symantec said I was clean or sometime crashed trying. Spybot s and d, SpywareBlaster, SuperAntiSpyware and online X-cleaner from Xblock all just crashed, when I tried using them.

A Dell employ told me to use Avast. After installing it made a start-up scan and found: win32 agent avo, win32 small-bhp, and win32 ctx. I tried “ repair” which did not work and then I deleted them – did not know about the Virus Chest.

Now everything on my PC is OK and I can watch the DVDs but I still have no sound, so I made Avast start a scan again(the most thorough). After scanning all day, it found Win32 NGVCK-E and I moved it to the chest as recommended. After that I thought it would be finished scanning, but it started all over again scanning from the beginning – has been at it for 24 hours. When will it finish? Can I stop it? I have to use my PC soon (work). Do you think it will help my sound problem?
I have Outlook Express – after installing Avast it takes a VERY VERY long time to get my e-mails. Before it was very fast – I have very fast broadband.

Don’t now much about computers, but hope someone can help. Sorry for my long and bad English

Smart guy

It’s wiser and safer then immediatly delete it.

Twice or repeated scanning shows that the user selected both Local disks and Folder selection and marked all the local disks (by their letters) again.

Maybe you should reinstall your sound drivers… do you know the manufacturer and the model of your sound card?
Can’t you look at the manufacturer website?

Well… are the emails that big in size? I mean, big attachments?

You’re on the right place 8)

Well… it’s not bad. We can understand it perfectly 8)
