hello,
since the avast beta I have been testing the avast screen reader compatibility improovements
there is one serious issue here that needs to be fixed asap
the ui now works fine with self def turned off
but won’t work with self def on
the critical bug is when you activate any settings butttons such as file shield and program settings
an inaccessible window comes up
this is reproducable both with nvda and narrator
i’m using the latest stable avast build and running windos 8 64 bit
Are you using the latest release version not beta, 8.0.1488 ?
Whilst I don’t know if that would have been resolved in this new release it would be worth a try.
hi,
yes I am running the latest stable
the issue persists in the the latest version
OK, hopefully one of the avast team can follow this up.
hi
we were trying to make all the important functions to be available for screen readers.
the problem with the self defense is that if we make it accessible, the program will be vulnerable for malware attacks.
in other words, this window has a protection which is not allow any other program to access it, that includes screen readers.
we will be working to play an audio spoken text to explain the meaning of this window
thanks for your patientets.
Yonatan
Thanks for the clarification yonatan.
@ theghost
For the time being all that you can do is disable the avast self-defence module, avastUI > Settings > Troubleshooting > and uncheck the ‘Enable avast! self-defence module.’ As yonatan mentions there is a risk in doing this as any malware could try and stop avast without the self-defence module running.
hi,
that isn’t the important problem
the serious problem is even with self defense uncheck and disabled the settings windows are totally unaccessible
would it be possible to fix this if it isn’t possible to fix the self defense
if the program can’t expose the ui controls would it be possible to only allow the screen reader through the self defense
or could you add an option that allows us to do this optionally
I want to be able to use my antivirus program and still be able to be protected from malware
I can’t say as I’m an avast user like yourself.
